A sensitisation programme to commemorate the World Environment Day 2012 was held at Shankardev Shishu Vidya Niketan, Hengerabari, Guwahati on 5th June, 2012. The programme was organised by Assam ENVIS Centre, Assam Science Technology & Environment Council (ASTEC) Guwahati. The programme was attended by students and teachers, local residents and environmental activists.
The theme of WED 2012 was “Green Economy: Does it include you?” The 1st part of this theme tackles the subject of the Green Economy while the second part invites everyone to assess where the Green Economy fits in their daily lives and evaluate whether development through a Green Economy caters for individual needs.
The programme started with a tree plantation programme by the teachers and the ENVIS personnel. Drawing and Extempore Speech Competition amongst the children of the school were also held. Manisha Sarmah from ENVIS Centre-Assam stressed on the preservation and conservation of the environment for our future generations.
To popularise the basic objectives of the ENVIS Centre, ENVIS Newsletters were distributed amongst the participants.
The programme concluded with the distribution of saplings amongst the students and teachers as well as local residents.
