The awareness rally on disaster risk reduction passing through the RG Baruah Road in Guwahati, on Thursday. – Photo: Samarendra Sarma GUWAHATI, Jan 9 - An awareness mass rally on disaster risk reduction from flash flood and landslide was conducted by the State Directorate of Soil Conservation on its office premises on RG Baruah here this morning.
The rally was organised to generate awareness among people on flash flood and landslide in the city so as to help mitigate the damage and prepare the citizens to face the disaster.
The rally was followed by an awareness programme which laid emphasis on the do’s and don’ts about aspects related to the disaster in order to enhance awareness among the people
The rally was inaugurated by Jiten Malakar, Additional Director, soil conservation department in the presence of the chief guest of the occasion RK Doley, former director of the department.
Chief guest of the awareness programme Nitin Khare, Commissioner & Secretary, Soil Conservation Department, spoke about conservation of land, erosion and other related problems which could be solved through minimum awareness.
The resource persons who attended the programme included Diganta Goswami, Professor of Assam Engineering College; Md Mirza Irshad, project manager and Rajesh Dutta, engineering consultant, Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), among others.
The speakers dwelt on the root causes of such disasters and the technical solution to problems related to flash flood and landslide.
