State Bird
|
White-winged Duck or White-winged Wood Duck is the state bird of Assam. Locally known as Deohaanh, the White-winged Duck or White-winged Wood Duck (Asarcornis scutulata) is an endangered species of duck. According to recent data, only around 800 of these birds are present in wild. In India, White-winged Duck is found mainly in eastern Assam and nearby areas of Arunachal Pradesh.

State Animal

One-horned Rhino is the state animal of Assam. One-horned Rhino or Indian one-horned Rhino (Rhinoceros unicornis) is a vulnerable species. The largest population of one-horned Rhino is found in Assam state of India. According to recent data, there are around 3000 one-horned Rhinos in whole world. Assam alone has more than 2000 of them.

State Tree

Hollong (Dipterocarpus macrocarpus) is the State Tree of Assam. Hollong is a medium hardwood, timber tree. It grows naturally in forests of upper Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. Hollong is a sacred tree for Moran community of Assam. Today Hollong is used in plywood industries.

State Flower

Foxtail orchid or Kopou Phool is the State Flower of Assam. Foxtail Orchid (Rhynchostylis retusa) is a is an integral part of Bohag Bihu in Assam. The female Bihu dancers decorate their hair with this orchid. Foxtail Orchid grows naturally in Assam forests. But due to destruction of forests and piracy, it is in the verge of extinction.
