Answer: ENVIS Stands for Environment Information System. 

 

Q. What is ENVIS? 

Answer:  ENVIS is a decentralised system with a network of distributed subject oriented centres ensuring integration of national efforts in environmental information collection, collation, storage, retrieval and dissemination to all concerned. The focus of ENVIS since inception has been on providing environmental information to decision makers, policy planners, scientists and engineers, research workers, etc. all over the country.

 

Q. What are the objectives of ENVIS Centre-Assam?

Answer: The objectives of ENVIS Centre Assam are:

·                  Regular updation of website on state environment and related issues.

·                  Compilation and uploading of News items on state environment issues.

·                  Identification of information/data gaps in the specified subject areas and action taken to fill these gaps.

·                  Database creation on state environment and related issues

·                  Publication of quarterly Newsletter and other publications (from time to time)

·                  To establish linkages with information users, carriers and providers from Government, Academia and Non-Governmental Organizations including other ENVIS centers.  

 

Q. How many ENVIS Centres are there in India?

Answer: There are total 66 ENVIS Centers all over India, including state specific and theme specific centers.
