World Soil Day observed

MORIGAON, Dec 6 - Along with rest of the country, the World Soil Day was observed here under the auspices of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Morigaon on Thursday.

On the occasion, a public meeting of farmers was organized at Pobitora Hat, where more than 400 marginal farmers took part. Explaining the purpose of the meeting, Dr Rijusmita Deka, scientist, KVK, Morigaon dwelt at length about the significance of the World Soil Day and its purpose to the farmers.

Speaking on the occasion, Rituraj Bora, Deputy Commissioner, Morigaon appealed to the farmers of Morigaon district to complete the soil test process for benefits of their crop fields. Addressing the gathering, Dr AK Tripathi, Director, Agricultural Technology Application and Research Institute, Guwahati said that as per guidelines of the Agriculture department of the Central government, Soil Health Cards will be distributed to all farmers of rural areas which will be beneficial to the farmer community.

In the meeting, Kishore Thakuria, CEO, Morigaon Zila Parishad and other scientists of KVK, Morigaon also spoke. Soil health cards were distributed to 365 marginal farmers of Morigaon district during the meet.
